HISTORY OF WRITING

Before books came about, there existed a culture of storytelling. Families the world over gathered around fires and narrated stories that were passed down from generation to generation. Stories of wars fought. Tales of great men and women and their conquests. Love stories. Bedtime “once upon a time” stories.

I was fortunate to be of the generation that sat around a fire back in African to listen to my grandmother tell us age-old stories about the hare and the tortoise. We would sit around the fire, starry-eyed, night after night, fascinated by her never-ending stash of tales. She never ran out of stories, and I ‘m sure she made some up as she went along. It was an art. It was never the same when my mother narrated the same stories.

In the Stone age, stories were recorded on cave walls which have helped us to know the important events that took place throughout history.

We also have our stories to tell, and we now do it through book writing and blogging. Through our writing, we are recording history.

We write biographies and memoirs. We help others start businesses and ministries. Books are a legacy that we leave that can never be erased.
